German cockroach :

What do they look like?

Starting with the German cockroach, adults have a distinct light brown or tan colour, and two long black stripes from the head down to the upper abdomen. On the other hand, the young German cockroach is nearly completely black, yet they still have the recognizable stripes too.

As the smallest cockroach on this list, they can grow to a length of 13-16 mm.

Habits

These pesky critters prefer to stay indoors where it’s warm.

Due to their small size the German cockroach can hide in very small spaces. These include tiny cracks and crevices found in the wall, drainage pipes, furniture, bags, and boxes. Furthermore, they have even been known to seek warmth in electronic devices after being used.

To access food and water, they may search nearby garbage bags, leftover unsealed food, kitchen cabinets, pantries, and underneath the sink.

Life-cycle

Like most cockroaches, the German cockroach can breed in rapid numbers. Each egg case can have anywhere from 30 to 40 eggs and takes only 1-2 days to hatch. Once the egg hatches, it takes approximately 60 to 220 days for a nymph to become a full-grown adult.
